Revisiting what I thought I knew about marketing

I started this blog in early 2017, during a small but passionate entrepreneurial chapter of my life. A year of change and exploration led me to marketing consulting for SMEs, and I had a lot to make sense of.

I wanted to write about marketing in a practical, useful and honest way, connecting concepts with my experience. The hope was a modest resource for young marketers, entrepreneurs, small business owners, and anyone trying to get a clearer picture of marketing, its tools and its subareas.

The blog became a place to think out loud. Some posts came from projects I was working on. Others came from questions people asked me, or things I just wanted to explore. Writing helped me organise my ideas, dig deeper into key concepts, and see how everything fitted together. With time, it also helped build and position my personal brand online.

At the same time, I started making interview-style videos I called #MKTtalks, short for marketing talks. They were proto-podcast conversations, rough around the edges and shot on 3 cameras, with people who had deeper experience in different corners of marketing, communications, entrepreneurship and creativity. I asked questions, listened, and carried what I learned back into my own thinking. For a stretch I was creating content weekly and sharing it across my socials, particularly LinkedIn.

By February 2018 I had moved to Australia, and life changed quickly. I studied, adapted to a new reality, rebuilt my career, worked across different organisations and industries, and kept growing as a marketer and as a person. By December 2019 I was a permanent resident, and by May 2022 a full Aussie citizen.

But the blog had slowed down, with only the occasional post. Until recently.

Almost a decade on, with all that extra experience behind me, I felt the pull to look back.

Rereading the old posts was fascinating. Most were written in Spanish, most still held up, and some needed adjustment, so the decision made itself: revive them, reactivate the blog, relaunch the whole thing. This first phase is about rebuilding selected posts into stronger, clearer, more reflective versions, keeping the original spirit while bringing in what I know now. That means new work experience, new theory, better examples, more context, and the ideas from those early #MKTtalks conversations woven further into each piece.

I don’t want to present this as if I’d had everything figured out. The learning curve is ongoing and very much part of the story. Marketing changes quickly, even more so now with AI, but learning, testing, reflecting and improving still matter as much as they ever did.

And beyond the updates, I’m looking forward to exploring new topics, starting new conversations, and learning out loud again, sharing what I find along the way. The aim stays the same: posts that are practical, thoughtful, well sourced, and linked to real experience.

Ten years later, I’m back to it.

Still learning. Still reflecting. Still trying to explain marketing in a way that’s useful, honest, and connected to the real work behind it.
